This was written by a Nap Ford student for a Page 15 literary magazine project. The assignment was a to write a letter to Mr. or Mrs. Adult about why it’s tough to be a kid, and to clarify some things that adults don’t understand about the younger generation. Chanté took it one step further and decided to write to the president of adults, so to speak: the actual president.
* * *
Dear Mr. President,
I am writing to you because I don’t think our economy is right. I feel like our last president almost cheated us out of our money we use to pay the bills. Now your people are on the street: hot, busted, and disgusted. I know God wants us to be humble, but do we have to be broke? It’s very hard to get food. So what are you going to do?
Sincerely,
Chaunté F.
