LEAD WRITING COACH

Page 15 is seeking a creative, energetic, and relationally gifted coach to join our teaching staff. This is not a traditional teaching role. It is something more specific: the work of building a room where young writers feel safe enough to begin, brave enough to share, and valued enough to return.

The Creative Writing Coach & Student Advocate brings the Page 15 model to life in the room — honoring each young writer’s individuality, cultivating a consistent writing practice, building community through shared stories, and creating the conditions where fearless creativity can thrive. Candidates should be culturally responsive, deeply committed to young people, and informed on the ethics of working alongside underserved and marginalized communities.

Responsibilities:

  • Writing Programs & Student Support
    • Facilitate daily after-school writing sessions and workshops using the Page 15 session model
    • Work one-on-one with young writers in grades 3–12 to support individual growth and goal achievement
    • Support the collection of program data and outcomes including attendance, writing rubrics, and monthly surveys
    • Recruit and retain student participation through relationship-building within schools and the community
    • Support student publishing opportunities, spoken word showcases, and public literary events
  • Community & Outreach
    • Promote Page 15 programs in schools, community organizations, and partner spaces
    • Build and maintain relationships with schools, community partners, and families
    • Assist with the coordination of events throughout the program year
  • Team & Organizational Support
    • Support and mentor interns and volunteers in alignment with Page 15 values and the Coach Training handbook
    • Participate in team meetings, planning sessions, and program development conversations
    • Assist with social media content that reflects the voices and work of young writers
    • Attend Page 15 fundraising events and board meetings when available
    • Contribute to a staff culture of joyfulness, excellence, and mutual care

WHO WE’RE LOOKING FOR

There is no single background that produces a great Page 15 coach. We have been shaped by teachers, poets, social workers, artists, and community organizers. What they share is not a credential — it is a set of commitments.

You bring…

  • A genuine love for young people and a belief that every voice deserves to be heard
  • Experience working with youth in educational, creative, or community settings
  • Interest in creative writing, spoken word, poetry, or storytelling — and the ability to model writing alongside students
  • Cultural responsiveness and a working understanding of the communities we serve

Qualifications:

  • Experience working with youth in a creative educational setting.
  • Passion for writing, literacy, and inspiring young authors.
  • Background in theater, storytelling, or performing arts is a plus.
  • Ability to manage a classroom and maintain a positive learning environment.
  • Must complete a background check and attend required training (paid by Page 15).

SCHEDULE AND COMPENSATION

The Creative Writing Coach & Student Advocate is a full-time position with hours that flex with the program calendar. During peak seasons — back-to-school, publishing deadlines, and spring events — weeks may reach 40 hours. During slower periods, hours are lighter. Expect a mix of afternoon, evening, and occasional weekend commitments throughout the year.

  • Salary: $38,000 – $43,000, commensurate with experience
  • Paid Holidays: Page 15 observes 27–30 paid holidays per year, including Spring Break (1 week), Memorial Day, the July 4th holiday week, Labor Day, Thanksgiving week, and a two-week December break.
  • Paid Time Off (PTO): Full-time employees are eligible for PTO beginning after 60 days of employment. PTO may be used for any reason — vacation, personal days, or illness — and accrues based on length of service.
  • Health Reimbursement: Page 15 offers a Qualified Small Employer Health Reimbursement Arrangement (QSEHRA), which allows employees to be reimbursed tax-free for individual health insurance premiums and qualifying medical expenses. Employees choose and maintain their own health insurance plan; Page 15 reimburses eligible expenses.
